Description:
Perennial herb, up to 60 cm. Leaves ovate-lanceolate with dentate margins. Inflorescences terminal with most parts purple, covered in whitish hairs. Flowers white or mauve with a distinct lip and dark circular marks in the throat.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: schimperi: named after Wilhelm Schimper, explorer and collector, particularly in Ethiopia.
Habitat: In grassy areas in open woodland.
Altitude range: 200 - 1650 m
Flowering time:Nov - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Tropical Africa to Limpopo South Africa.
