Description:
Usually a dense scrambling shrub. Bark dark grey-brown; stems mostly round or only slightly fluted; young branches furry brown. Leaves often drooping, broadly ovate to obovate, sometimes almost round, up to 7 × 7.5 cm, 3-veined from the almost symmetric base, dull green to yellow-green, furry on both surfaces; apex rounded with a small point; base squarish to somewhat cordate; margin irregularly toothed. Flowers yellow, c. 2 cm in diameter, in axillary heads on stalks longer than 1 cm. Fruit spherical or shallowly 2-lobed, rarely 4-lobed, each lobe up to 14 mm in diameter, shiny yellowish-brown when ripe, covered with sparse whitish hairs. See G. flavescens for comparison.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: olukondae: of Olukonda in Namibia, where it was first collected.
Habitat: In riverine fringes, near floodplains, on termite mounds in open woodland, often on alluvial sandy soils.
