Description:
Trailing perennial herb growing from a woody rootstock. Stems up to 80 cm, pubescent with longer yellowish glandular hairs on the younger parts. Leaves 1-3 foliolate, 1-foliolate particularly on the flowering stems; leaflets broadly elliptic to ovate, 2-7.5 cm long, lateral leaflets shorter, pubescent on both surfaces, gland-dotted with prominent, often reddish venation below. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered clusters in the axils of 1-foliolate leaves. Standard deep yellow, flushed with red outside and reddish veining inside; wings pinkish-red; keel whitish tinged purple at the tip. Pods oblong to almost squarish, 9-15 mm long, pubescent with net-veining visible.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: monophylla: “1-leaf”, unifoliolate – leaves of single leaflets
Habitat: In open grassland and woodland, conspicuously flowering after grass fires.

Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe; also Tanzania, South Africa, Eswatini.
