Perennial climbers with white latex. Tubers turnip-shaped or cylindrical. Stems twining. Leaves opposite or fascicled, linear, narrowly ovate or obovate; interpetiolar ridges with dentate colleters. Inflorescences terminal and axillary. Sepals acicular, ovate or triangular. Corolla tube more of less shallowly campanulate; lobes oblong-ovate or obovate. Corona inserted in corolla mouth, coronal feet fused with staminal filaments and nectaries forming an annulus, lobes ligulate or cylindrical, 2-, 3-, or 5-fid. Stamens inserted at inner base of coronal feet; filaments filiform; anthers ovate to ovate-hastiform, base with white calosities, pollen in pollinia. Interstaminal nectaries lobular, fused laterally with coronal feet. Style-head broadly ovoid. Gynostegium in corolla mouth. Follicles paired, widely divergent, cylindrical-ovoid. Worldwide: 2 species in northeastern and eastern Africa. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
