Cephalophis Vollesen

Description of the genus

Herb. Leaves opposite, crenate, with conspicuous cystoliths. Flowers solitary or in 3-flowered cymes, borne in a narrow raceme-like panicle. Calyx deeply divided into 5 subequal, recurved segments. Corolla: tube linear, widening slightly above; limb markedly 2-lipped, upper limb strongly curved, flattened laterally with 2 small apical teeth; lower limb subcircular in outline, with 2 lateral parts folded over and covering central part. Stamens 2. Capsule clavate, 4-seeded. Seeds discoid, densely covered with retrorsely barbed glochids.

Worldwide: Kenya and Mozambique

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
