Description of the genus

Perennials. Inflorescence of several-many racemes, digitate or scattered along a central axis. Racemes bearing appressed spikelets on a flat rhachis. Spikelets 1-flowered, sessile, alternate in 2 rows, disarticulating above the glumes. Glumes unequal, 1-nerved, membranous, acute, enclosing the floret; lower keeled, upper dorsally rounded. Lemma 1/3 - 1/2 as long as glumes, dorsally rounded, hyaline, obtuse.

Worldwide: 3 species in southern tropical Africa

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
