The specimen I (LW) provided to Mr. Leach was the first recorded in Zimbabwe, but was received too late for inclusion in the above article, which had already gone to press. LW adds: Captain and Mrs Palfrey lived in one of the remotest areas of the country - inaccessible during the rains - on the border with Mozambique. He had been awarded the M.C. during WW1. Mrs Palfrey somehow discovered that I had a weakness for scones with strawberry jam and cream, and whenever I visited (unannounced) they would miraculously appear ! A wonderful old couple. |

Comment: although now classed as "Critically endangered", this was not the case in Nuanetsi in 1964, and hopefully will still be so now. As can be seen from image number 1, flowering was prolific. |
