Notes: | In Flora Zambesiaca volume 1 part 1 (1960) the treatment of the genus Rorippa contains two species called, R. madagascariensis and R. humifusa. Both key out quite differently and also show very distinct differences in the descriptions. Under current taxonomy R. humifusa is considered a synonym of R. madagascariensis. This seems odd since the species in FZ are so clearly different. A third name, R. micrantha, which is absent from FZ altogether is now accepted and sometimes R. madagascariensis is now listed as a synonym of this species again. The confusion seems complete but I believe the reason is a wrong use of the name R. madagascariensis in FZ. The taxon described under that name is in fact R. micrantha and the taxon described as R. humifusa is the true R. madagascariensis with R. humifusa as its synonym. Despite its widespread occurrence in Africa as well as in Madagascar the specimen in the images (Wursten BW2017) appears to be the first record from Mozambique. |
