Shrub to 5–9 m; stem terete to sub-angled, somewhat branched, sometimes sub-winged, brown to reddish brown, glabrous to pubescent, sometimes hairy at nodes. Leaves with petiole 1.1–7.5 cm, sparsely hairy to pubescent, blade ovate, cordate, 2.2–10 cm long, 1.1–6.7 cm wide, base auriculate, sub-sagittate to hastate, margins dentate to laxly serrate, ± revolute, apex acuminate to long-acuminate, glabrous or sparsely hairy above, glabrous or sparsely hairy to sometimes pubescent and glandular-punctate beneath, usually with 3 distinct and 2 less distinct raised veins originating from the base. Inflorescence a dense, leafy corymb on an axillary peduncle, 2.5–16 cm long, branched, clusters of capitula arranged in panicles; capitula 6–8.5 mm long, 2–3 mm in diameter; stalks of individual capitula 1.5–6 mm; phyllaries green, sometimes with purplish tinge, equal, narrowly lanceolate, boat-shaped, 4.5–8 mm long, sometimes appearing swollen at the base, apical margins shortly fimbriate, glabrous to pubescent, sometimes glandular. Corolla 3.5–5 mm long, white, glandular, especially at lobes, lobes short, triangular, margins thickened; anthers with lanceolate appendages, 1–21/2 times longer than wide, protruding beyond corolla lobes; style exserted for ± 1–2.6 mm. Achenes fawn to brown or black, 2–3 mm, glandular; small carpopodium evident, cream to straw-coloured; pappus 3–6 mm, minutely barbellate, connate at base. |
