Description:

Robust climber with stems more than 5 m long. Leaves elliptic to ovate, 9–15 cm long, sometimes cordate at the base, bright
green above, paler green beneath; petiole 10–35 mm long. Inflorescences few-flowered,
hairless; peduncles 1–3 cm long; pedicels 1–4 cm long. Sepals broadly elliptic to orbicular, 2–3
mm long and wide, hairless, margin sparsely fimbriate. Corolla with tube c. 0.5 mm long; lobes 7–10 mm long, inside papillose, purple, dark maroon, maroon or brownish, outside hairless, pale green to greenish-yellow, sometimes spotted green-maroon.
Corona lobes bi-segmented with flap-like lobules 1–2 mm long and wide. Follicles narrowly ellipsoid, 10–12 cm long. |
Notes:

This species differs from the more common and widespread Mondia whitei in corona lobes with only two segments iso three (only flap-like lateral lobules present, and corniculate
or ligulate central lobule absent). It also has broader and more obtuse sepals. |
