Description:
Robust terrestrial, 1-2.5 m tall with a purplish stem. Leaves throughout the stem, lanceolate to ovate, 16-21 cm long, dark green, plicate, clasping the stem. Inflorescence an elongated few- to many-flowered raceme; bracts leaf-like, 4-5.5 cm long. Flowers pendent, yellow-green with purple veining on the sepals; lip maroon-brown to brick red.
Notes: Recently recorded from Mt Namuli.
Derivation of specific name: africana: african.
Habitat: Riverine forest, in wet soil by streams in deep shade.
Altitude range: 1300 - 1980 m

Worldwide distribution: DRC, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zamzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
