Description:
Annual or short-lived perennial herb, up to 1 m high but often very much shorter. Stems slender, hairless or pubescent, sometimes purplish above. Leaves sessile, somewhat fleshy, linear-lanceolate, up to 6 cm long, larger leaves clasping the stem at the base. Capitula 3-4 terminal, in more or less branched, lax to moderately congested inflorescences. Involucre cylindrical, 4–6.5 mm long and 1–2 mm in diameter; phyllaries usually 8 but up to 13, green tinged purplish, hairless or shortly pubescent. Florets numerous, discoid, pale to bright purple, pink or rarely white, 4-6.5 mm long. Achenes hairless, up to 1.5 mm long; pappus, 2.5-4 mm long.

Habitat: In marshy grassland and bogs.
