Common names:
Frequency: Local and uncommon.
Status: Native
Description:
See subsp. verekeri for general details and comparison. This subsp. is characterised by the long prostrate stems which are more rounded and set with much shorter tubercles.
Notes: This species was so far only known from an area south of Mambone near the mouth of the Save River. The specimen in the images was found more than 500 km further north and is a first record from the MS division.
Derivation of specific name: verekeri: named after Louis Stanhope Amos Vereker (1874-1948), a Rhodesian farmer, who collected the type specimen of subsp. verekeri.
pauciflora: with few flowers.
Habitat: Growing in shade of forest-like thickets dominated by short Androstachys johnsonii.
Altitude range: Up to 60 m

Worldwide distribution: So far only known from Mozambique.
