Description: |
Slender annual herb, 8-40 cm high. Stems square, hairless or sparsely hairy. Leaves opposite, seesile or very shortly petiolate, elliptic-lanceolate, 0.8-3.2 cm long, somewhat rough above, hairless beneath or ciliate on the midrid; margin entire sometimes rolled under. Flowers in few-flowered terminal heads, small, white, pink or pale mauve. Capsule c. 2 mm wide, unusually shaped, cordate and bilobed at the baseand an apical obtuse beak c. 1 mm long, densely roughly pubescent. |
Notes: | The specimens in the images (PB2218) are the first record for Mozambique, a considerable extention of the range as it sofar has been recorded within the Flora zambesiaca area only from Northwestern Zambia. It was very common at the location of the record forming extensive almost weedy colonies. |
