Description:
Aromatic, perennial herb with prostrate or ascending stems, spreading glandular hairy, growing from a strong woody rootstock. Leaves broadly ovate or elliptic, 8-25 mm long, with sessile glands beneath only; margin with 3-5 distinct teeth on each side; petiole very short. Inflorescence with 3-7-flowered clusters lax or crowded in the upper part. Calyx strongly 2-lipped, 4,4-8 mm long, usually purple. Corolla 5.5-17 mm long, purple, pink or rarely white.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: uhligii: after Viktor Karl Uhlig (1857-1911), a German geologist at the University of Vienna who collected in Tanzania.
Habitat: In grassland, open woodland and along margins of forest.
Altitude range: 1900 - 2400 m

Worldwide distribution: Known from West Africa, DRC, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
