Description: |
Hairless shrub; young branches thinly covered with red-brown bark. Leaves broadly elliptic, 9–18 cm long, often with a drip tip, thinly textured, drying brownish; lateral nerves in c. 9 main pairs; tertiary nerves moderately prominent above; domatia inconspicuous; petioles 1–2.2 cm long; stipule limbs brown and somewhat darker at centre, ovate to broadly ovate, 4–7 mm long. Inflorescences moderately laxly many-flowered, terminal, often on short lateral branches with supporting leaves reduced or absent; pedicels 0.7–1.4 cm long, pubescent. Calyx tube 1 mm long, pubescent; limb 0.75 mm long, scarcely wider than tube, divided for ± half its length into ovate rounded lobes. Corolla tube 5–7 mm long, hairless outside; lobes narrowly oblong, 6–7 mm long. Fruit black when dry, c. 6 mm in diameter. |
Notes: | It has only been recorded from the Dondo Forests and Inhamitanga forest. Since the Dondo forests have largely disappeared and Inhamitanga, though officially protected, is also threatened by fires and clearing this species should be red date listed at least as Vulnerable. |
