Description:
Shrub or small tree, usually armed with opposite woody spines.Leaves mostly clustered on dwarf lateral branchlets,occasionally in pairs, more or less narrowly obovate or elliptic, 1.5-7 cm long, somewhat leathery, hairless;petiole mostly c 2 mm long; stipules 3-5 mm long, seldom persisting beyond the apical node. Flowers usually solitary or in few-flowered clusters, in one axil near the apex of a branch or branchlet but sometimes appearing terminal, sessile or very shortly pedunculate; bracteoles ovate, c1-3 mm long, ciliate. Corolla 5-lobed, white, usually pink-tinged or streaked outside; tube 1.5-5 cm long; lobes elliptic to slightly obovate, 1.5-2.5 cm long, shortly hairy on both surfaces. Fruit spherical to broadly ellipsoid, 1.5-2 cm long; calyx limb persistent.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: amoena: pleasant, charming, agreeable.
Habitat: In dry forest on sandy soils with Spirostachys, Hymenocardia and Afzelia.
Altitude range: 100 - 330 m

Worldwide distribution: Southern Mozambique, Eswatini and Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape South Africa.
