Description:	Usually a shrub up to 2m tall. Leaves elliptic-oblong or narrowly obovate, 6-10 cm long, usually more or less pubescent on both surfaces, slightly paler beneath; margin entire but sometimes slightly rolled under; petiole up to 1 cm long. Flowers large and showy in 1-3-flowered axillary clusters or sometimes also terminal on the branches, on peduncles up to 2 cm long and pedicels up to 3.5 cm long. Sepals usually 3, broadly obovate, c. 1.5 cm long, more or less densely pubescent outside. Petals 7-12, oblanceolate to obovate, up to 3.5 cm long, white. Stamens very numerous, golden-yellow. Fruit ovoid or ellipsoid, up to 4 cm long with c. 8 longitudinal ridges, woody, splitting into c. 8 segments. Seeds, hairy with a red aril down one side.
