Description: |
A perennial herb, up to 1.5 m tall, growing from rhizomes. Lower stem thick and woody, upper hollow, simple or sparingly branched, with 4 ridges. Basal leaves elongate, linear lanceolate, hairless or rarely slightly setose; margin entire or toothed. Upper stem leaves entire or more rarely pinnatipartite, hairless. Capitula globose, up to 30 mm in diameter with flowers. Involucral bracts blackish, ovate–lanceolate with short adpressed hairs. Receptacle bracts dark tipped, long acuminate or cuspidate with a long spinous tip, hairy except at the tip. Involucel hairy, corona of 4 long teeth, densely hairy. Corolla white, calyx hairy. |
