Description:
Erect or somewhat straggling sticky glandular perennial herb up to c. 1 m tall, Leaves more or less ovate in outline, 3-5 cm long, covered in sticky glandular hairs; margin dentate serrate to lobed, narrowing towards the base into a winged or lobed pseudo-petiole. Capitula hemi-spherical, c. 12 mm in diameter, in a terminal, loosely branched inflorescence. Involucral bracts 2-5-seriate, 2-5 mm long, densely glandular. Disk florets yellow; rays absent.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ulmifolia: with leaves like an Elm tree (Ulmus sp).
Habitat: In wet places along rivers and streams, often forming extensive colonies.
Altitude range: Up to 1550 m
Flowering time:All year
Worldwide distribution: Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, South Africa as far as Eastern Cape.
