Description: |
Erect, sometimes straggling perennial herb, up to 90 cm tall, rarely taller, often much-branched at or near the base. Leaves opposite, narrowly to broadly ovate, 2-15 cm long, pubescent above and on the veins below; petiole up to 1.5 cm except for sessile uppermost leaves. Inflorescence often large, laxly branched, with capitate glands towards the top of the peduncles. Flowers white, cream or yellowish, sometimes tinged pink, with a long narrow tube, 20-30 mm long, pubescent and with capitate glands outside; upper lip small narrowly lanceolate; lower lip large, 3 lobed, often speckled dark purple towards the mouth. Capsule 14-18 mm long, pubescent with scattered capitate glands. |
Notes: | Rhinacanthus rotundifolius was erroneously listed as recorded for the Manica-Sofala Division in A Preliminary Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Mozambique (Da Silva, Izidine & Amude in SABONET report no. 30, 2004). R. rotundifolius is restricted to dry bushland in Somalia and Northeastern Kenya and does not occur in Mozambique (Darbyshire & Harris in Kew Bulletin 61-3: 416, 2006). |
