Description:
Perennial herb with annual flowering stems growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves very varied in shape from linear-elliptic to broadly ovate. Inflorescence mostly terminal, sometimes with 1-3 spaced verticils lower along the stem. Corolla white to pale mauve with violet lines on the upper lip. Stamens long exserted.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: obovatum: with obovate leaves
Habitat: In open and wooded grassland. Often as a pyrophyte, flowering soon after the grass has been burnt.
Altitude range: 50 - 2200 m
Flowering time:Sep - Jan
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Tropical and South Africa.
