Description: |
Deciduous shrub or small tree up to 7 m high.Bark dark greyish-brown, fissured; young branchlets hairy with prominent leaf-scars. Leaves alternate, very broadly ovate to almost round, 4-16 cm long, leathery, rough to the touch, particularly above, sometimes almost 3-veined from a somewhat cordate base; margin obscurely toothed to entire; petiole 0.5-5 cm long. Flowers in few-flowered to dense heads, terminal or on short shoots with the new leaves. Fruit broadly ovoid, c. 4 × 3.5 cm, tapering to a horn-like tip, cupped by the large persistent calyx with margins frilled and often curling back in older fruit. |
