Description:
Perennial herb with slender prostrate or twining stems up to 1 m long, often tinged purplish, growing from a tuberous root-stock. Leaves linear, lanceolate to ovate, 3–10 cm long, thinly textured; becoming hairless or hairy along the margins; margin entire; petiole 2–15 mm long, hairy. Flowers usually solitary, rarely paired, fading early in the morning; peduncle 0.3–2 cm long. Sepals ovate or orbicular, 6–8 mm long, with reddish papillae, more rarely almost smooth, hairy or becoming hairless. Corolla funnel-shaped, crimson, rose or mauve or limb white and tube coloured, 5–7·5 cm long; tube rather dilated in middle. Capsule globose, hairless.
Notes: The specimen in the images (BW1583, BR) appears to be the first record for the MS division.

Habitat: In woodland and grassland, usually on sandy ground.
