Description: |
Perennial herb with annual creeping and trailing stems, growing from a woody rootstock. All parts of the plant, except the corollas are covered with stellate hairs. Leaves ovate-circular, usually less than 4 cm long, more or less cordate at the base. Flowers in 1-few-flowered axillary clusters. Sepals lanceolate to almost circular, up to 10 mm long. Corolla funnel-shaped with a narrow tube, mauve-pink to purple. Capsule subglobose, hairless. |
Notes: | The flowers are short-lived, opening in the morning and fading by the end of the day. Var. malvacea is distinguished by its more erect, bushy habit and the larger leaves (more than 4 cm in length). |
