Description:
Hairless perennial herb 1–1·5 m high, with a subterete to somewhat angled stem, with finely prominent grooves, often tinged purple-brown. Leaves ovate to triangular in outline, 3–4-pinnate, up to 50 cm long, excluding a with long petiole; ultimate segments 2–6 × 0·5 mm, finely linear, densely arranged in the lower leaves, more widely spaced in the upper leaves; leaves reduced to sheathing bracts on the inflorescence. Umbels terminal and lateral. Rays 10–39, 3–11 cm long at maturity, irregular. Bracts numerous, linear, up to 15 mm long; bracteoles similar. Partial umbels with 10–18 flowers on pedicels 6–17 mm long. Petals greenish-yellow, the outer scarcely radiate. Fruit oblong-elliptic, 10–14 mm long, strongly dorsiventrally compressed, base scarcely emarginate; lateral wings 1–2 mm wide.

Derivation of specific name: rhodesicum: of Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
Habitat: In montane grassland and scrub, often in wet places.
