Dwarf suffrutex, growing from a rhizome, up to 0.6 m tall but usually less. Leaves variable, ovate, obovate to lanceolate-elliptic. Flowers often on new growth growing straight from the rhizome. The fruits are edible. |
| Notes: | This taxon has not yet been recorded from Mozambique but has been provisionally included by Burrows et Al., 2018:699 as it likely to be found there in future. Although it is consistently very different in habit from other subspecies of S. guineense, which are all trees, most authors agree there is not enough evidence to support claims to treat it as a separate species. |
