Description:
Perennial herb. Stems few to many, mostly unbranched, up to 80 cm, growing from a woody rhizome. Leaves alternate, erect, subsessile, elliptic, narrowly ovate or obovate, glaucous, glabrous. Inflorescence a terminal involucrate head, mostly 30-50-flowered. Flowers brilliant yellow to scarlet red. It is a typical pyrophyte, often flowering soon after the grass fires.

Derivation of specific name: chrysantha: golden-flowered
Habitat: In grassland, in the ecotone between woodland and grassland and along vlei margins.
Altitude range: 400 - 2000 m
Flowering time:Dec - Jan
Worldwide distribution: West Africa, DRC, Sudan and East Africa, south to Zimbabwe and Mozambique
Mozambique distribution: N,MS
