Description: |
Perennial herb or subshrub, up to 60 cm. Leaves 3-veined from the base, narrowly lanceolate, up to 11 cm, thinly hairy on both surfaces. Flowers solitary in the upper leaf axils, bright yellow. |
Notes: | This species is very close to Melhania prostrata, which has hairs only on the undersurface, has larger bracts on the epicalyx, and has reticulated testa on the fruits. |
Derivation of specific name: | randii: named after Dr R.F. Rand (1856-1937), English Medical doctor and early plant collector in Zimbabwe. |
Habitat: | In Brachystegia woodland and at the margins of vleis. |
