Description:
Perennial herb with prostrate to ascending stems, up to 1.2 m long. Leaves broadly ovate to almost circular, up to 10 cm long, 5-veined from the base, densely stellate-pubescent above, tomentose beneath; base rounded or broadly cuneate; margin crenate; petiole up to 5 cm long, with 3-5 pairs of disc-like glands just below the lamina. Inflorescences leaf-opposed in 1-2 clusters together on stout peduncles. Flowers crowded together. Sepals linear, 10-12 mm long, with crowded scales outside and a blackish 2-toothed horn just below the apex. Petals yellow. Fruit c. 2 cm in diameter, globose, covered with hard conical hairless tubercles, sometimes bearing spines.
