Description:
Straggling shrub or small tree. Bark smooth, grey. Leaves spirally arranged or cluster-like on short, almost spine-like spur-branchlets, paripinnate with 6-16 (usually 9-11) pairs of small subsessile leaflets, up to 2 × 1 cm, more or less oblong-elliptic, distinctly asymmetric, often notched at the apex; rhachis velvety, often narrowly winged. Flowers in small axillary clusters often appearing before the leaves, cream-coloured, inconspicuous, unisexual on different trees. Fruit subspherical, c. 15 × 15 mm., mostly hairless when ripe, orange to red, edible. Seed 1, ellipsoid, 1-1.5 cm long, chestnut-brown, enclosed in a fleshy aril.
