Description: |
Liane up to 4·5 m high or more; stem green when young, becoming reddish-brown or purplish-brown, persistently 4-lined or 4-angled and pubescent Leaves oblong to oblong-elliptic or obovate, 5–8(12) cm long, deep green above, pale green below, sometimes with brownish venation, thinly textured, softly pubescent most densely on the midrib and veins or rarely almost hairless; margin glandular-denticulate; petiole 2–9 mm long, softly pubescent; stipules linear-filamentous with broad base, c. 0·5–1 mm long, reddish-brown, pubescent, not united. Flowers in more or less lax branched inflorescences; peduncles and inflorescence-branches quadrangular, pubescent; pedicels 0·5–2 mm. long; bracts triangular, c. 0·7 mm long, entire, pubescent. Sepals ovate-triangular to semicircular, c. 0·3 mm long, equal, greenish with paler margins, pubescent. Petals greenish to brownish, narrowly oblong, 0·8–1 mm long, with margin more or less incurved, hairless, suberect or ± spreading when open. Disk shallowly 3-lobed, surrounding the ovary. Stamens 3. Ovary with short style; stigmas completely united. Mericarps narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, 3·7–8 cm long, pale green or yellow-green, flattened, striate, 2-seeded. Seeds winged, with veins marginal and submedian. |
