Description:
Straggling shrub or small tree. Leaves alternate, elliptic to lanceolate, tapering or attenuate, up to 11 cm long, bright green, sometimes asymmetric at the base; margin with gland-tipped teeth. Flowers unisexual on different trees, in small axillary clusters or solitary, yellowish-green, honey-scented. Fruits sub-spherical, fleshy, 1.5-2 cm, bright orange-red when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: arguta: sharply serrated.
Habitat: In low-altitude and coastal forest, often along streams.

Worldwide distribution: Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
