Description:	Small shrub up to 1.5 m high. lateral leafy shoots mostly up to 3 cm long. Leaves opposite, elliptic-pbovate to almost circular, 3-17 mm long, fleshy, pale green, asperulous along midrib, veins and margins but otherwise hairless. Stipules 1 mm long triangular-lanceolate, pale brown. Flowers solitary, unisexual on the same plant, sometimes on different plants. Male flowers creamy-white with a green midrib on the speals; female flowers pale greenish with a creamy-white margin. Fruit depressed subglobose or somewhat 3-lobed, 2.2 × 3.5 mm, smooth, olive-green.

Habitat:	In dry mixed deciduous woodland on sandy soils and on rocky outcrops with Brachystegia tamarindoides.
