Description:
Perennial herb with ascending stems up to 50 cm long, growing from a strong woody rootstock. Leaves 1-3 foliolate; leaflets narrowly oblanceolate, up to 10 cm long. Inflorescences mostly terminal, few-flowered. Flowers pale pink to mauve, with dense rusty hairs on the standard. Fruit a slender flat pod, covered with rusty hairs, particularly dense along the margins.
Notes: - The specimen in the images (K. Mutasa 009, K, SRGH, BR, LMA) is the first record for Mozambique.
- Var. longipes, which is more widespread, is distinguished by the consistently pinnate leaves with 5 or more leaflets, which are smaller than in var. drummondii.
Derivation of specific name: longipes: with a long foot;
drummondii: named after R. B. Drummond (1924-2008), former curator of the National Herbarium in Harare (SRGH), who collected the type specimen.
Habitat: In (sub)montane grassland.
Altitude range: 1300 - 1350 m

Worldwide distribution: Previously only confirmed from the Chimanimani Mts in Mozambique and Zimbabwe but see not above. Also two possibly similar records are known from South Africa.
