Description:
Annual, erect or spreading, 0.3 - 1 m tall. Leaves 3-foliolate: leaflets 2-6.5 × 0.6-2.5 cm, elliptic-oblong but varying from lanceolate to elliptic, appressed-pubescent beneath; petiole 1.5-5 cm long; stipules 1-3 mm long, linear-subulate. Racemes 12-45 cm long, laxly 16-40-flowered. Calyx: upper lobes with a persistent excentric tip. Standard bright yellow, ageing reddish; keel with a narrow twisted beak. Pod 1-1.7 cm long, oblong-ellipsoid, 6-16-seeded.

Derivation of specific name: senegalensis: of Senegal
Habitat: Woodland and grassland, in disturbed places, usually on sand.
Altitude range: 50 - 1650 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Savanna regions of northern tropical Africa, then from Ethiopia southwards to Tanzania and the Flora Zambesiaca area; also Angola and the DRC.
