Description:	Erect, glabrous, annual or perennial herb, up to 1.2 m. Leaves thinly succulent, grey-green, mostly on the lower stem, scattered and bract-like near the top. Margins usually entire, sometimes with some small lobe-like teeth. Flowers in rather lax terminal, branched inflorescences, rather tubular, bright pink to scarlet with the corolla tube twisting above the developing fruit.
Notes:	Several forms have been described. f. rotundifolia, f. peltata R.-Hamet ex R. Fernandes and f. tripartita Raym.-Hamet ex R. Fern are recorded from Mozambique but are not dealt with separately here.

Habitat:	On sandy and rocky soils in various types of woodland.
