Description:
See var. oppositifolius for general description. This variety is distinguished by the woolly crisped hairs in the axils, shorter pedicels, up to 5 mm long and the often smaller, petiolate leaves which are more obovate spathulate and only attenuate at the base (see note below). In general appearance in the field it may appear to be more similar to Glinus lotoides var. virens except for the clearly non-stellate hairs.
Notes: The distinction made above is partly the reverse of that in the key in Flora Zambesiaca Vol. 4: 539 (Gonçalves, 1978). That, however, must have been an editing error. That the distinction as formulated here is correct is supported by the drawing in FZ as well as all specimens double-checked at BR, some of which are cited in FZ.
Derivation of specific name: oppositifolius: with opposite leaves;
lanatus: woolly, lanate.
Habitat: In savanna woodland, wet depressions, on river banks and along roadsides, often in sandy soils.
Altitude range: 20 - 780 m

Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
