Description: |
Slender terrestrial herb 30-40 cm tall growing from globose tubers c. 13 mm long; stem leafy, lowest 2 sheath-like, mid-stem leaves, semi-erect, largest up to 6-16 x 1-2.5 cm, lanceolate or linear, uppermost leaves bract-like; inflorescence laxly 4-20 flowered; flowers green or yellow-green; dorsal sepal 5-7.5 x 2-3 mm, ovate, erect, convex; lateral sepals 6.5-7 x 3 mm, obliquely lanceolate, spreading; petals 2-lobed to c. 2 mm from base, upper lobe 4.5-5 x c. 1 mm, adnate to dorsal sepal, lower lobe 13-15(23) mm long, filiform, spreading; lip 3-lobed with undivided base c. 2 mm long, mid lobe 7-10 x 1 mm, linear, side lobes 11.5-20 mm long, filiform, deflexed; spur 40-50 mm long, incurved, slender but slightly swollen towards the apex; mid lobe of rostellum 2-3.5 mm high, standing in front of the anther. |
Notes: | This species is mentioned in the Preliminary Checklist of Vascular plants of Mozambique (SABONET report 30, 2009). It is however absent from both Flora Zambesiaca (La Croix & Cribb, 1995) and the Provisional Checklist of Orchidaceae of Mozambique (Schelpe, 1973). |
Derivation of specific name: | <strongmagnirostris</strong: roughly meaning large beaked in possible reference to the large mid lobe of the rostellum. |
