Description:
Small to medium-sized tree. Leaves linear, mostly concentrated in terminal rosettes. Flowers in terminal spikes or branched panicles, cream, opening at night, sweetly scented. Fruit berry-like, bright red when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: mannii: after Gustav Mann (1836-1916), British colonial representative in the Gulf of Guinea, who collected plants in that area.
Habitat: At the margins and in the understorey of evergreen forest.
Altitude range: 20 - 1600 m

Worldwide distribution: Tropical Africa from Senegal and Zanzibar to Angola and South Africa. Regional:Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe
