Description: |
Caespitose perennial; culms up to 400 cm high, robust, erect. Basal leaf sheaths strongly laterally compressed and flabellate; leaf laminas 30–100 cm or more × 4–12 mm, conduplicate when dry. Racemes 2–7 cm long, dorsiventrally flattened with imbricate spikelets, embraced below by the spatheole, fastigiate in a copious false panicle. Sessile spikelet narrowly oblong; inferior glume 3–4.5 mm long, thinly coriaceous, smooth, faintly nerved, membranously winged above, the wings distinct from the body of the glume. Pedicelled spikelet 2.5–4 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, asymmetrically winged above; pedicel clavate, with a narrowly lanceolate auricle on one side towards the apex. |
