Description: |
Rambling or prostrate rhizomatous perennial; culms up to 150 cm high; leaf laminas 5–25 cm × 3–20 mm, glabrous or pubescent. Inflorescence mostly terminal, of 2–5(8) subdigitate racemes each 3–15 cm long; rhachis internodes and pedicels ciliate, yellowish to purple, subequal, clavate. Sessile spikelet 4–7 mm long (including the large oblong callus 1–1.5 mm long), narrowly elliptic; inferior glume chartaceous or sometimes subcoriaceous in the inferior third, 2-keeled above but merely incurved towards the base, convex, glabrescent to villous, the keels with or without wings, these sometimes forming a prominent lateral tooth or lobe, usually bidentate at the apex; superior lemma with an awn 5–15 mm long. Pedicelled spikelet as long as the sessile spikelet but laterally compressed, geniculately awned from the superior lemma. |
