Description: |
Caespitose perennial arising from a short rhizome; culms up to 100 cm tall, erect; leaf laminas firm, 10–40 cm × 1–5 mm, tapering to a filiform apex.Inflorescence 7–20 cm long, comprising 6–15 racemes each 3–9 cm long.Spikelets 5.5–9 mm long, oblong, reddish-brown; glumes 2.5–8 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous, the superior as long as the lowermost lemma; lemmas 4–6 mm long, oblong-elliptic, pubescent on either side of the mid-nerve and on the lateral nerves below; awn 1–8 mm long, straight, usually arising 1/3 the length of the lemma from its apex (but varying from 1/5 to 1/2); palea as long as the lemma, sparsely hispidulous on the back, shortly villous on the flanks.Caryopsis c. 2 mm long. |
