Description:
Rhizome erect to suberect, fronds tufted. Stipe up to 40 cm long. Lamina up to 2 m, bipinnate and lanceolate in outline. Pinnules glabrous, linear-oblong in outline; apex acute; margin crenate. Sporangia cover the basal third of the lower pinnae.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: barbara: strange, foreign, described by Linneaeus
Habitat: Along montane streams and margins of evergreen forest

Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, South Africa. Also Australia and New Zealand.
