Perennial herb or subshrub. Stipules caducous or 0. Leaves alternate, with impressed submarginal glands towards the base. Flowers axillary, solitary, usually heterostylous. Pedicel articulated at the apex of a peduncle bearing 2-4 bracteoles. Sepals connate near the base. Petals inserted at the throat of the calyx-tube; corona of 10 scales at the base of the petals. Ovules many-ovulate. Capsule spherical to elliptic, 3-valved. Seeds slightly curved; aril whitish. Comment: The only species in this genus was formerly included under Piriqueta but this is now considered a Neotropical genus. Worldwide: 1 species in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
