Description of the genus

Perennial herb or subshrub. Stipules caducous or 0. Leaves alternate, with impressed submarginal glands towards the base. Flowers axillary, solitary, usually heterostylous. Pedicel articulated at the apex of a peduncle bearing 2-4 bracteoles. Sepals connate near the base. Petals inserted at the throat of the calyx-tube; corona of 10 scales at the base of the petals. Ovules many-ovulate. Capsule spherical to elliptic, 3-valved. Seeds slightly curved; aril whitish.

Comment: The only species in this genus was formerly included under Piriqueta but this is now considered a Neotropical genus.

Worldwide: 1 species in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
