Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves opposite, petiolate; lamina with opaque, dark-coloured glandular dots, mostly near the margin and brownish stellate hairs, particularly beneath. Flowers in a terminal, cymose panicle, bisexual. Sepals 5. Petals 5. Ovary 5-locular with 1(-2)-ovulate loculi. Styles 5, free. Fruit a berry. Seeds with a fleshy, glandular-punctate testa.

Worldwide: 40-45 species from tropical Africa and Madagascar

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
