Description of the genus

Perennial herbs or small shrubs. Epicalyx bracts 3-12, linear, sometimes minute. Calyx lobed, each lobe bearing a double row of oil-glands along each nerve Style not branched, clavate at apex with coherent stigmas. Ovules 2 or more in each loculus. Fruit a dehiscent capsule.

Worldwide: c. 26 species in tropical and warm America and Africa

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
