Description of the genus

Dioecious trees. Leaves paripinnate, but often appearing imparipinnate; see the Zanha golungensis page for images showing this effect. Inflorescence a short paniculate thyrse. Sepals 4-6. Petals 0. Stamens (3-)4-7. Ovary 2-locular; loculi with 2 ovules. Fruit 1-seeded by abortion, ± drupaceous, indehiscent. Seed 1; arillode 0.

Derivation of name: origin of the name uncertain, possibly commemorating the German plant collector, Karl Herman Zahn, 1865-1940.

Worldwide: 3 species, 2 in tropical Africa and one in Madagascar.

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
