Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves paripinnate. Inflorescence a terminal or axillary paniculate thyrse. Flowers actinomorphic; sepals 5; petals 5, slightly shorter than the sepals, unguiculate, each with 2 hairy scales formed by the inflexed margin above the claw; disk lobed. Stamens 6–8. Ovary 2-locular, loculi 1-ovulate; style short, 2-lobed. Fruit capsular. Seeds 1 in each loculus, with an arillode covering the lower half.

Worldwide: Species 4-6, in tropical Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
