Trees or shrubs; latex not evident. Stipules small, connate, leaving annular scars at nodes. Leaves alternate, short-petiolate; lamina simple; margins entire or rarely sparsely serrulate. Inflorescence of glomerules or cymes, leaf-opposed. Sepals 5 or 6, free, imbricate, sometimes glandular abaxially; petals absent. Fruit a capsule or sometimes indehiscent and drupe-like. Seeds covered by a pale sarcotesta; endosperm present; cotyledon broad and flat. Worldwide: 35 species in Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Mozambique: 3 taxa. |
